The Front Page of a Newspaper

The front page of a newspaper typically contains the biggest news stories of the day in the country where it is published. Occasionally, major news stories from other countries will find their way onto the front-page of a newspaper as well. The front-page of a newspaper often teases other big stories which are inside it.

Three anonymous Jane Does alleged that they were sex trafficked as minors and sued Backpage, then known as Village Voice Media, in federal court, claiming that the website facilitated their exploitation by allowing sex traffickers to post ads listing them for sex services. The federal court ruled that Backpage’s actions constituted “traditional publisher functions” with regard to third-party content and was shielded by CDA Section 230.

In August 2013, New Jersey passed a law trying to legislate Backpage out of existence, which was similar to laws in Washington state and Tennessee. The federal judge enjoined the statute, finding that it was preempted by Section 230 and violated the First Amendment and Commerce Clause.
